A few years back I removed all of my better coins from their respective albums and put them in airtite or mylar 2x2's and organized them in lighthouse display trays (see pics below). I feel that this was one of the best non-coin related investments that I have made. I can now view individual coins (which I do all the time) without removing them from the album. The trays stack nicely in my safe and I can keep detailed records on excel by the coins position in the tray. I don't want to sound like an advertisement, but I also like the overall "display" appearance as it makes for a beautiful presentation. Anyways, I have found that this had made it easier for me to spend more quality time with some of my best friends, uuhh, I mean Coins........

Pretty cool!

This is how a coin dealer I know stores his personal collection. Made it easier for him to transport only specific coins to "show off" to customers.

I like the idea, but I fear the value of the trays and holders might exceed the value of my collection!

I have been thinking of doing this for ages, however I have hundreds and hundreds of quality coins and always think I could better spend the money on more coins. Seeing yours like that kind of makes me think it would be a good investment.

One wonders if this forum has enough purchasing power to be able to negotiate with suppliers like lighthouse to achieve better deals.

I don't know if I should start another thread for this being new (moderators?).
I am sure an awful lot of supplies, 2x2s, coin capsules, coin pages etc are used by forum members. Would members be interested in purchasing them from CCF if they were available. With so many consumers in the one place, I would think a discount could be organised.

It would be a way for members to directly support the forum. It could be done on a pre-pay basis. Each member that is interested could pay $xx up front. As you order your supplies, your account balance goes down and you simply top up.

This way, the forum is never out of pocket and carries no risk. Sort of like a co-op agreement, only I am sure no one would mind if the forum was to make a little money on it to help cover the costs of running the site.

What do others think?

I currently have 34 of these trays and as a subscriber to Coin World/Coin Values I get a nice discount on all Amos Advantage supplies like these trays, books, etc. there cost is actually very reasonable. I would be very open to becoming a member of a Coin Community tpye co-op though.

What latman100 is suggesting sounds like a group buy, popular on many of the automotive forums. I can say a good number of performance parts on my car came to me this way!

The moderators can suggest an appropriate forum, and decide if this discussion should continue or not. I am not sure how to interpret the rules on this one, but my thought is B/S/T eligible users organizing a group buy in those forums.

I do not like to stray OT, so my apologies to CuprousCoin for the diversion.

I definately like the displays !.....but for me too....investing too much money in "supplies" isn't practical.........so although it'd be nice......it'd be money spent that I could NEVER recoup !..........
but if someone would just GIVE me these.......hummmm.......
I can barely afford to keep buying "coins" let alone expensive supplies to house them and store them. Tubes, 2x2's, then mylars, albums, folders, airtights.......that's all I can afford to do basically.
Those display cases of yours are SO nice.......but I'm afraid it's out of reach and not practical for me
