But wouldn't it be thinner or worn down? Rather than thicker and more edged than your typical dime? If that makes any since to you. I'm new to any of this.

My guess would be environmental damage,probably has spent sometime in the ground.

to the Forum. It's impossible to know for sure what happened to it since it was struck. I can tell you it's not a mint error though. Better luck on the next one.

For those of us that metal detect, this is called a lake skipper, meaning it was barely worth digging for. It's just plain old environmental damage.
