Hello,
I'm new here and I have a very strange dime. I have brought it in to a coin dealer who made sure it was real but has no idea what would cause this.

Please let me what you all think.

to CCF fellow Michigander. What does the edge look like? It looks to be some kind of post mint damage. Give it a bit for more comments.

The edge is the same size as another dime and has the 2 tone coloring and ridges like another dime. I know that by the dealer I went to he said that the reverse side had damage from an overused or worn die, but the obverse side had no known idea what kind of post mint damage would cause that or minted damage would either.
Rest in Peace

Think its more "Little Johnnie, in the Garage, with a glass eyedropper full of sulfuric battery acid"...called drop etching, notice motto date areas have effect as well as fields. Nice job of keeping acid off of bust an LIBERTY tho...
