I recently picked up this 1878 Trade dollar, at a price under the assumption that it would be impossible to attribute a mint mark. However, upon receiving it, I thought saw two little bumps in the place where the mint mark is supposed to be, at the angle characteristic of the CC mark. Or am I going crazy?!

What do you guys think? Any interesting die markers/etc that would be helpful in attributing a mint mark on this one? Or a lost cause? I am thinking of submitting it to a TPG in case of a sizeable possibility that it is a CC.

I'm not seeing a CC. I'm barely sure it's a Trade dollar

It will be easier to for you to see it in hand. I can't tell anything from the pics other than it's a Trade dollar. Looks like it was left on a railroad track.

What I would try and do is get an image of a good (VF or better) 1878-CC (or even an S), and overlay that in photoshop. Then adjust the opacity to see if you can match up a MM where it should be. TBH, it's doubtful you'll be able to authenticate a MM with that much wear, and quite frankly, I don't think it's worth the time and effort that would be needed. In that condition, how much of a premium could you expect, even if it is a CC?

Here is one... 1878-cc..

I used my 65" TV to display the picture, but I can't tell if CC is on yours. I might be seeing one "C", maybe? I might be going crazy too.
