This came from a roll of quarters from a bank that contained 3 legitimate silver quarters, whoever had them knew this was something.

You can't see it that well in the picture, but the edge of the coin is SOLID silver color. Absolutely no copper stripe. I would bet anything it is not "plated outside of the mint."

No silver proof of 2000P Maryland exists.

I have had it weighed and I'm pretty sure it's not struck on a nickel planchet. (I don't recall the weight, but I think it was a normal quarter weight)

What do you think?

Circulation quarters weigh 5.67 g
Silver proof quarters weigh 6.25 g

I've recently had a circulation dime that had almost no clad appearing on the rim. Perhaps just a weird planchet?
Rest in Peace

You may be right about plated, I notice what appear to be "globs" on the rim by "DOLLAR", the letters do appear mushy and "flaky looking" , kinda like a bad paint job /( may be pix). Is it slightly magnetic by chance(very slight)? This would indicate a nickel plating.

Unless there was a collar AND pressure problem, some copper core would show thru, at least in a portion or "spotty".

As Alex suggested, the weight can tell you a decent amount. I'm not sure about this one but, I do see varying thickness and location of the copper core exposure on the edge of clad coins. I suppose it is possible for the CuNi cladding layer to wrap around the edge.

More experienced folks will come along to comment.

My guess would also lean towards the possible plating as the uneven surface coating suggests.

I agree. They were sold on TV and through other media outlets as "collector items" to those who did not know better. Buyers dumped them into circulation once they realized that their "$100+" collections were only worth $12.50.

and yes, a lady at the last coin show I attended had a few sets and was trying to sell them to the dealers.

I felt kinda bad for her as they were pretty much just quoting her face value. Maybe a couple dollars more.
