Thank you so much for your help.....you too Bryan and everyone; I feel pretty good about how this is working now. I downloaded Ifranview and I will play with it for a while.
I didn't like the harshness of the built-in top light on the QX5 anyway! Any suggestions as to a good lighting arrangement? I can already tell I need lights on both sides of the coin and I probably need halogen or a more color friendly source. Thanks again.....

I finally found why my laptop was acting strange and shutting down soon after hooking up my QX5. It seems that the heat sinks on my processor board were clogged with lint and dust and causing the system to over heat when the load from the USB port was high and the central processor was running. I cleaned the heat sink and it works like a charm.
