Mark, it is called "split plate doubling", not a doubled die but a strike error. The thin copper plating can become stretched too far and tear upon stamping the planchet exposing the zinc core to the air. Once CO2 hits the zinc, corrosion happens rather quickly. That coin is destined to beva goner in a few years!
