Here is a link I found describing these medals and sets http://www.historicalartmedals.com/..._england.htm From the image provided and the link above, if the medals in your set are in chronological order then wouldn't the empty spot be for the George II Memorial medal? Quote: Another set was struck a little later included the memorial medal of George II, making 35 medals in all. The author of the above states that the sets are found in wooden trays but doesn't mention the brass plaque. Maybe they weren't aware of it. Hope this helps in some way. -MV

A very interesting set of medals. I enjoyed researching it. You may have already discovered some of this, but hope it may be useful to you.
Can you confirm whether the 34 pieces you have include the George II dedication medal (only text on reverse), the George II memorial medal (artistic scene on reverse), or Caroline? If you have both the George II memorial and Caroline medals and lack only the dedication medal then it would align with one of the sets issued from the mid 1730s to 1755 and the missing dedication medal would complete the set. Otherwise, your set may be complete and the empty hole simply left blank for the 34 piece set issues shortly after 1731. Of course, the only way to confirm the issue date for your medals would be to examine more closely to determine if any were struck from recut or worn dies as the dies apparently changed ownership several times over the subsequent centuries.
The case may provide other clues. I'm afraid I cannot tell from the photos. Are those round headed nails or screws holding the hinges?

Let me start by apologising for the delay in replying to responders (there are not enough hours in the day!). The hinges are brass screws, and the case has an 1820's rather than a 1770's feel to it. These cases are uniform in type, and seem to have been commercially made to house the set. See links below to others encountered on the internet. I have the George II and Caroline, so it looks like the 1730s -55. The medals have the right patination and are sharply struck in bronze (see pics.). I am just missing the dedication medal, which I'm seeking to complete. The Dassiers are highly regarded, but I'm not personally too keen on this set, as the likenesses are in many cases fantasies, and the reverses are not particularly inspiring. https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=l...=954&lot=449https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/...a40100832d70

Persia/ Petro I'd be more than happy to assist you research wise if I can. I do not have a catalogue--the links to information I have posted previously belong to that individual.
If you post ones you need help with or want more information on I will try to help. I do not actively collect medals and the depth of my knowledge is limited. I tend to rely on Google and whatever information I can discern from the medal.
Hopefully this helps.
