A slow show, lots of shoppers but few buyers. Very few coin collectors and the ones that were there had very specific needs. Bullion was active, but highly competitive. We had this guy selling silver at the same cost you could replace it at at this time. I guess he bought it during the flash crash a couple weeks back, but it sort of killed the market for the rest of us. One guy was selling 90% at melt. How can you even compete with that? Another dealer advised me not to even try, eventually he will run out. Some interest in certified modern bullion, some of which I have even though I think its stupid. Never buy MS-69 bullion; no one wants it. People that collect this stuff go for the MS-70s which are common enough.
1/10th oz American Eagles seem to be in the sweet spot for gold at $140, but there is some interest in the 1g for $48 as a cheaper alternative. Very little interest in 1 oz gold at the show, probably because it is a local show and most people don't come with $1300 in cash. People like looking at the 1g and 1/10th oz silver, but silver eagles and 1 oz bars are the most popular with 10 oz bars being right behind them.
Sometimes you have a show where you only sell from junk boxes, but you can sell hundreds of dollars of it. Nice weather and summer makes for few families and that didn't happen this time.
