Hey everyone so I just got this coin from my uncle and wondering if this is real, fake, or reproduction. Found silver and bronze versions of this coin online and can't find this version....any help would be appreciated thanks.

I'm leaning towards fake as the letters are wrong compared to a genuine http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/10995

Plus these were coined by the US Mint using silver dollar planchets of the day. The weight of a freshly struck dollar was 26.73 grams.

As far as I know there were no gold coins issued in 1883.

Gold plated, of the real thing, after it had circulated to a F-15.

These were commonly plated and they were also used in belt buckles in the 20's and 30's.

There are a lot of these poor abused big boys out there, and an additional reason for their high value when not abused (besides the melting).

Almost all numismatic value is destroyed on your example. Might have more valuable for the plating than the coin.
