Hi,

I just found a 2013 Lincoln Cent with this strange "partial reeded edge" on one side of the coin, and on the opposite edge (180 degrees) is a different type of mark. They do not appear to be made by pliers or a similar tool, but who knows? Sorry for the unclear photos, but they are the best I can do for now (taken through a magnifying lamp lens)...
Any ideas? Thanks...

Hmmm, interesting. Not sure what to say. I'll let the others give you an answer.

Hello,

I am pretty sure it is just PMD - It looks like contact with another coin (at a pretty good force) to leave the indent and also cause some partial separation.

The others will still chime in.

Just throwing this out there since I know nothing about the Dime making process:
Is it possible the the cent got into the Dimes and because it was too large in went in at an angle and that caused the reeding and the spiting on both sides (getting stuck in other words)?

Can you please post pictures of the full obverse and reverse?

Hmm... very interesting... does the distance between the indented reeds appear to be the same distance as a dime? I wonder if there was some debris from some receded coins in the machinery when this was struck. The indent on the opposite side though is suspicious that it might be damage from outside the mint.

Considering the fact that that the "reeded" part is indented and slightly curved inward, I would agree with Jake The Dog and say that this is the product of a sorting machine getting very jammed.

Here are photos of the obverse and reverse of the coin. The reeded edge is located at "LIBERTY" and the other mark at the date area.

The third photo compares the cent edge and a dime edge. They seem to almost fit together (as in 2 gears), but the dime edge is cut much deeper, so it's hard to draw a definitive conclusion.

Breeding doesn't appear to match the dime. I can't think of any of the mintage process that would cause the edge reeding. I'd have to say PMD too.

This may be the result of a mixed bank bag that was dropped in transit, those 10,000 coin suckers are HEAVY! Just coin to coin contact.
