I'm riffling through this online garage sale auction, when I come across this coin marked 1888 50, with the old Queen Victoria coin it. The coin is in ruff shape so I take to me trusted coin booklet to evaluate what the value is.

I read $120, in circulated condition, which is what I figured it was. So I put a online bid of $100 and wish for the best. I won the lot for $60 plus %15 commission. The dealer is local so no shipping charges.

I then do some further research and notice their is no Canada written on it. Immediately I say to myself, what have I done.

I think its Malaysian, but habve no idea if its worth what I payed. Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

From the looks of it not too bad a grab! Couldn't find any sold on ebay and one AU on Heritage that sold for $430, but according to NGC and what people are ASKING online, seems like a nice price! Nice find!

WOW, This community rocks. Is saw the ebay listings but never saw an actual sale. You guys are great and thank you for the input. If anyone else has more information on the item I'd love the hear it. I like finding out about the history of the coins almost as much as buying them.

Thanks again

Lucky that your 'mistake' wasn't a mistake. You will learn, be careful, and examine the coin thoroughly BEFORE you bid. I once bid on a CC Morgan with a huge gash in it because I didn't look closely. Good thing someone paid even less attention than I did and bid more.
