If you assume the clash adds no premium to the coin (which it probably wouldn't) would you still slab it? In other words will what you paid for it, plus the cost of slabbing be significantly less than what the slabbed coin would sell for? Frankly from the first pictures it looks like there may be some good scratches there so what if it comes back with a detail grade? Is it still worth it?

An honest evaluation would be no. It's not worth TPG. This tiny guy has too many owies. I think it would probably detail, and then the clash would be immaterial as to value. I'd keep it as is and find a nice home for it in a binder dedicated to errors and minting oddities. It is a nice clash. |

Nice clear clash, but those - as you say - are common.

Thank you everyone, for the honest input. This one won't make it to TPG but hopefully will go to a nice home where the clashes are appreciated as much as the coin. I'm starting to see that errors are not as much as a selling point as they are an appreciative aspect to individual collectors. The coin is more important than the errors, not the other way around. |

It depends on theand don't contribute significantly to the value of the coin error. Most errors you see are minor. Die cracks, clashes, most doubled dies except major ones on widely collected series, rotated dies, mis-aligned dies, most Cuds etc are minor errors. Significant off-centers, brockages, off-metal strikes, multiple strikes, missing clad layers, most overdates etc are major errors and will often provide a significant portion of the value. Also major errors on common date coins are much better than the same errors on scarce or rare date coins. |

Unc details, agree the (interesting) clash isn't a major value factor here.
