I don't have any ancients, but these are some beautiful coins to look at! Thanks for posting, and for the cool contest. :)

even if your oldest high grade coin isn't an ancient or even medieval, still feel free to post it!

In that case I'll post this recent pickup.

Don't you have a 7070 going, Jbuck? Surely you have some pretty US classics!

Also, didn't mention it earlier, but I still love that Gadhaiya Paisa, @Paul! They are certainly tough to get in that condition!

with Dorado. Especially if this round is like the previous popular vote rounds where you have to participate in order to vote.

Nothing that would be called high grade. Everything is nicely circulated.

In that case, here is a 7070 hole occupier with quite a bit of original luster:

A coin has been shown that I just have to vote for.
I'm amazed that coins ~2000 years old can survive in such remarkable condition.

It will take too long to search for pics of my higher-grade ancient or medieval coins (though I'll post one candidate if I make it in time), so here is my "wow" coin that looks very old, even if it isn't...

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish! Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

If you didn't know, you'd be hard-pressed to tell which century this coin is from!
But it is, in fact, from the 1940s (the complicated overdate obscures the specific year) - the Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen, shortly before they switched to modern equipment.

My pictures do not do justice to the luster; it is so perfect that I didn't realize the coin was silver until looking it up later.
