Thanks all! Seems like we're running out of themes to play off of, but I don't recall doing this one yet. Post your newest coin made using traditional minting methods, i.e. not struck by a machine My example: Silver rupee of the Indian state of Bundi, hammered by hand in 1925 (Vikram Samvat year 1982) Most recent coin wins! If the coin is not dated, use the earliest date in the range. A few hints: - China cast cash coins up until the early 1920s - Vietnam cast cash coins until WWII - Indian Princely States hammered coins until the early 30s - Some Islamic states hammered coins until the 1920s or later.

Just so that we don't all post something from the subcontinent of India, here is a Qing Dynasty cast Cash from the Kucha Xingjiang mint in China. The date range is 1878 to 1883 AD and the attribution is Hartill 22.416. Sorry about the harsh cleaning--it was like that when I bought this in a lot.

I think the best I can do is a 17th-century Lithuanian solidus (I am assuming it wasn't machine-struck). My pics of it are garbage, so: Edit: I may could breach the 18th-century with a 1751 1/2 real. Again, that's assuming it wasn't machine struck and I dont know.

I'll go with a weirder example. I don't actually know whether this coin was machine struck; it doesn't look like that, but it might have been machine struck from a hand punched planchet. I tried to look it up, but couldn't figure it out. Yemen, Mutawakkilite Kingdom, Imam Ahmad, 1/8 riyal, 1368 AH (1949 AD). Sana'a mint. Supposedly, at that point, the Sana'a mint used "medieval machinery" (or something along those lines). They might still have had a modern-ish press, however. [If that doesn't count, here's a backup entry that definitely does: Empire of Vietnam (Dai Nam), Nguyen dynasty, Thieu Tri, 1 Van, ND (1841-47).]
