Bd251 a Florin is 28.4mm in size not 27.3mm, if yours is, its a fake. Believe me I know.

I was going to enter New Zealand, but try this

Australia 1918 Florin - Minted in Melbourne

Distance - 16, 893km = 17 points
Size - +2 points
Age - -11 to 20 years = 0
Silver comp (.925) = +2
Size +2 points (Also a Florin)

Score is 23 points

Doing a NZ Florin would be less points as you get 2 more for distance, but lose points on age and composition as the coins were not minted until 1933 and the silver comp was never over 50%.

It's good to see some participation! I was starting to worry.

According to Numista, it's 27.3mm and your Australian florin is 27.5. They have the same weight and the UK florin is thicker.

Quite a bit further from the UK to Melbourne, than the UK to Australia.

Why do you get points for size twice? Or did I miss something

Thanks everyone for correcting my ability to read numbers diameter is 28.3 not 27.3. I had the correct number in mind when I made the rules (27-29mm max score) so I guess that's good at least.

Thanks for pointing this out. I guess I need to double check all scores.

Princetane's corrected score: 20
Distance +16 (15192 km)
Date +0
Composition +2
Size +2

Scoreboard:
Gincoin43 - 20 (19-1+0+2)
Princetane - 20
Arkie - 14
Pepactonius - 13

No you are incorrect, I have 21 points not 20.

Melbourne to London is 16,850km not 15,192km I get 17 points and not 15. No silver florins were minted in perth until the 1950s, all of the Florins before 1942 were minted in Sydney and Melbourne in Eastern Australia not Western or Central Australia, I should not be penalised because of Australia's size.

The NZ Florin was minted at The Royal Mint in London and is also only 50% silver meaning it would only score points for distance as its too base and too recent.

NZ Florin 1937

Distance 19 points (Technically 0 as it was minted in London, hence why I chose a coin made in Australia)
Size 2 points
Age -1 point (35 years later)
Composition - 50% = 0 points

Actual score 20 points or 1

My coin is older and more silvery and its also not made in the UK hence I should be winning.

My score, 17 points for distance, 2 points for size, 2 points for silver content, 0 for age

I have 21 points, the Kiwi coin has 20 points or 1.

I was right about the size of a florin and the points I had.

Numista is great, but not everything on their site is correct. It is written in France, so their understanding of non French coinage can be limited.

Plus British florins date from the imperial measurement age and the French have been decimal since the 1700s so there may be a conversion factor. If you check several other Florin measurements, you will see they show their correct size.

Distance score:
- I would like you to determine the distance based on the search "distance from UK to [country your coin is from]"

That is the distance to Melbourne, but according to the rules of the contest we are measuring to the country of issue not the mint. If you search "distance from UK to New Zealand" you get 18,390 km. Bd251(the current gamemaster) scored your coin above using that criteria.

Yes but if Australia was a smaller country, it would be fairer for me and I think the older coin rather than distance should break a tie.

Had I known a New Zealand coin would do better than Australia, I would have entered one! After all I have bought the coins of my own country to the fore here.

In that case

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!
Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

1933 NZ Florin, would also get 20 points under this rigarig system, but my coin is 4 years older and much better condition.

NZ Florins don't get any older than this.
