Sorry, been dealing with a family health emergency and DG's coin identifying contest.

Here goes a challenge though and a good easy one to come after that last one, which lets face it was a lot of work and probably put off many of us.

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!
Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!
The coin above is my new pride and joy - an 1849 Florin.

Treasure Hunt - Who can get the most points.

How to get points.

Year: 1849 = 50 points, 1848/50 = 49 points etc +/- each year means one point less so 1898 and 1800 = 1 point, 1887 = 12 points, 1826 = 27 points.

Metal: Silver 92% or more = 20 points, 80 - 91% = 10 points, under 80% = 5 points, Any metal other than silver including gold = 0 points.

Size: - 28mm = 20 points, 28.5 - 30mm and 26.5 - 27.9mm = 10 points, Over 25mm - 26.5 = 5 points, 30 - 32mm = 5 points. If your coin is over 32mm or under 25.0mm = 0 points - measurements in mm only, I am not accepting imperial American measurements.

Country of Issue: Britain or any European state or empire + 10 points, Rest of World except the USA = 0 points, USA -20 points (This is to stop a flood of US coins)

Extra points

Gothic lettering or design - +5 points
Roses - +3 points each (3 points only, can not also claim flower point)
Any other flowers + 1 point each

Lions - + 5 points each (Not eligible for other animal points)

Other 4 legged animal (Quadruped) + 2 points each

Shields - + 1 point each
Crowns, including ones worn by head of state - + 1 point each
Drapery around a shield etc - + 5points, claim only once.

Rules
- Many coins as you like, but highest score only counted

Coin must be readable

You must know or have a good guess at how many points you have.

Lowest score is 0, if your coin scores under 0 because its American, its ineligible - we want to see some WORLD coins.

No Morgan dollars please, seen enough of them!

Any complaints about the USA policy = disqualifiaction.

Have fun!

Not sure if this qualifies as readable. I highly suspect that I have something that would score higher.

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish! Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

Russian Empire, Kingdom of Poland
3/4 ruble = 5 zlotych, Warsaw mint, 1836
Numista 30361

Year: 1836 - 37 points
Metal: 86.8% silver - 10 points
Country: Russia/Poland - 10 points (Poland is in Europe right?)
Size: 33 mm - 0 points (just)
Quadrupeds: 1x2 = 2 points (the horse in the middle)
Shields: 7x1 = 7 points (maybe less, some of them aren't very legible)
Crowns: 3x1 = 3 points
Don't see any flowers, lions, or drapery

Total: 69 points (I think). I hope I hadn't skipped anything.

The only silver coin I own within 10 years of either side of 1849 is this one.
1856 500 Reis from Portugal. No picture on file of other side, so you can see that here..
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces25042.html

Yet-Another-Forum-Game---Numismatic-Go-Fish!

Now let's see if I can work out the points correctly.

Year 1856 = 43 point
Metal is silver 91.7% = 10 points or do we round it up to 92% :)
Size 30mm = 5 or 10 points, not sure which.
Country of issue = Portugal = 10 points
Shield = 5, in the coat of arms of Portugal.
Crown = 1 point
Drapery = 5 points

Total = 79 minimum.

Both accepted - good coins.
Steve - I have to insist on a obverse photo though or will give this one to January so far.

January1stMay - entirely accepted to me Russia is European and at least as far as the Urals, but any coin in Russia/USSR is fine as a European or Asian coin in my opinion - Spasibo! for your entry, a very nice and interesting coin!

It's great too as I know a nickname for a 15 Kopeck coin in Russia was a Zlotnik, which equals 1 Polish Zloty - so that would mean 5 Zloty = 75 Kopecks or 3/4 of a Ruble.

I love all the names, Polushka, Denga, Altyn, Grivnik, Polipoltnik, Poltina etc

Of course now a Zloty is worth many Rubles!

Too hard to dig the coin out and remove from 2x2 for a photo, so I'm more than happy for the lead to go to January1.

Steve :)

Nice coin Dorado.
I'm sure I see 11 roses, 2 crowns and a horse on there too.
So that's at least another 37 points.

I should have been more clear and banned British halfcrowns and Florins to make it more challenging.

Bd251 - any coin outside 1800 and 1898 is ineligible, but since I forgot to add this rule, your coin is eligible.
JBuck - very cheeky, I really wanted to ban all American dollars, but yours is very nice and I will accept it.

This contest was poorly planned and I did it under stress and duress.

Dorado, you need to calculate your own points, my brain is fried enough.

Steve - I will accept 91.7% as 92 points, so you can get twenty giving you 45 points (89 x 0.5 rounded up)

January1May - 79 points
Triggersmob - 45 points
J Buck - 40 points
Bd251 - 48 points
Dorado - Your guess is as good as mine!
