Ukrainian 200,000 karbovantsi coin, commemorating 10 years since the Chernobyl disaster. IIRC this is one of very few Ukrainian coins denominated in karbovantsi - that was a temporary Ukrainian currency in the 1990s (prior to introduction of the hryvnia), and it had no circulating coinage (only banknotes/coupons), but apparently several commemorative types, including this one, were denominated in it anyway. The karbovanets was replaced by the hryvnia in September 1996, so this 1996 commemorative (the relevant anniversary was in April 1996) must have been one of the last issues in it! One of many areas of interest for me is medieval cut coins. For those of you unaware of these, for several hundred years in England, the smallest Denomination was a penny, so it was common practice to cut the coins into halves and quarters (forthlings.. Farthings) I believe this practice was also carried out in Ireland and Scotland and I dare say other countries aswell. Above is my example. A Henry III cut Halfpenny. Points Country 3 England 2 United kingdom/Scotland/Ireland 1 Europe Denomination 3 Halfpenny 2 Any other fractional Denomination Year(s) 5 1247-1272 4 1200-1300 3 1100-1400 2 1000-1500 1 Anything pre 1600 Bonus points 5 A cut coin 5 A hammered coin 5 Any marks identifing a mint or Moneyer 2 Silver 2 Featuring a monarch Report this Post to the Staff
