Hi all. been watching coin error videos on you tube. So I went looking through my wheat cents and found this. 1917 s that looks like some gold shavings got in the press. I have probably had this coin for 45 years. Lol. Opinions on value? Thanks

Struck through gold shavings/filings - how cool would that be? Looks to be some small areas where the gold (?) has fell out leaving a void.

Highly unlikely that it would be gold inclusions. The most probable cause would brass streaks in the bronze alloy, also known as a "woody" because many examples have streaks that resemble wood grain.

Any chance you could post a clear close-up of the "gold" area under God?

It looks to me like a Lamination error or possibly something has been put on the coin. An expert will probably help you with it.

Looks as Bio said, planchet flaw with a brass/zinc formation throughout the flan...improperly mixed in plate stock making. This may be a chunk of raw brass that was melted but not fully mixed in while annealing?

with biokemist6. It is an improperly mixed alloy. Just a little more dramatic version of a woody. I don't have my pictures on my new phone yet or I'd post something very similar on a British penny.

If it's not something that comes off with acetone, I would agree it's an improper alloy mix. An improper alloy mix is not an error though, it's the cause of a few different errors. So which is it?
UtahJack if it was my coin I'd soak it in acetone. It won't hurt it, but it'll remove paint, glue, etc, If it doesn't come off, clear close-up pictures of all areas of the anomoly would be in order.

Neat Monster Woody. You don't see that degree of improper alloy mix often. I like it.
