Hi, I am new to the site not an avid collector of coins but when I come across ones I have not seen I put them to one side. but I recently got a new uk £1 coin in my change and it looked rather odd. can any let me know if they have seen anything like this before I have uploaded some images. I cannot see any like it on the internet.

i could only upload the one picture but the coin is the same on both sides appears to be no nickel

Thanks in advance

Plating - despite what the TV Hucksters would like you to believe - does not add value. It destroys any numismatic value.

I suppose it's possible a blank of another metal got mixed it - what is the weight (to 0.1 or 0.01 gram) vs. a standard 2017 pound?

If it's the latter and and it's got mixed with another metal with it being a minting error would this effect the value?

If it were plated wouldn't the outer ring and inner core both be the same colour?

Yes, if it were the wrong insert it would be a mint error and worth ... something ... but you need a British Error specialist to evaluation the coin and give some estimate of the value.

The weight is different enough that this is possible (plating adds micrograms).
