Ok three pictures here. One is of Mr. Lincoln's face and the ear has a gouge that I presume is post mint damage. Correct?

the second shows two coins Liberty next to each other. One is significantly wider than the other. Most look like the wide one which I don't think is doubling. but where does the skinny one fit in?

Third is what I think is a doubled Liberty.

All comments appreciated. Rich

#1) correct, just a ding, PMD

#2) This is caused by die polishing and grease filling. As the surface is polished away, the devices become shallower. The devices are made a slight wedge shape, when dies fill up the image widens. It will also widen with metal flow from use as the whole die expands and move outward

#3) shows die wear and deterioration

Another factor I forgot to mention is the dates of your coins are not fully known. Comparing different years must take in differences of master dies used and any changes made, such as the mintmarks...these were placed onto the working dies individually by hand until 1990, when they became hubbed in to the master dies basically eliminating the RPM errors. Small changes may have been made on other details from year to year, die to die as well. Take the FG in 88/89 with and without cross serif in G. Some were minor ,others major.
