This die is at its end of it's lifespan. You can see how the letters are strenching into the design and how the details are not as sharp. VLDS (Very Late Die State). Because of this, it's only worth 1 cents.

When they are minting billions of cents, the mints really push the dies to their limits to cut costs.

Mark, they sure do! The Mint would do anything to save money and this is one of them.

Believe it or not, the mint makes money minting the copper plated Zinc cents and they do lose money minting nickels. If they got rid of the cents being minted the nickels would be gone too!!
