Wow that piece was in the coin before the coin was struck. If it was after lincoln's face would not show and as you can see all his detail is there. Neat coin

It is glue, there was more but it chipped off and the glue helped protect some of the original red patina.

Bobby, give it a long soak in Acetone and if it's glue, it will do the trick and the glue will come off. Acetone will not harm the coin at all. It's safe to use. :)

I suspected glue, but wanted to hear it from more people. This coin was from Facebook and many didn't want to believe me. But the owner took me seriously.....
