Help....I've attached one example. This is a gorgeous coin in hand but if I don't light it just like this my images of this coin turn out tan. The same can be said for my lackluster photography of classic proof coins. I have similar difficulty. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have been messing with diffuse lighting but have basically gotten frustrated

There's also a chance that diffuse axial (or pseudo-axial) lighting might turn out OK for a coin like this. Since it's in a slab, you'd need a special setup with really even lighting, so you could subtract out the uniform glare reflected from the slab.

However, it looks like this slab has hairlines, and the coin is dark, which makes axial lighting difficult.

smile director. that is a stunning coin. the colors is incredible. the easiest way is with a smile directors. here is an image of a slabbed coin. you can see the scratches on the plastic. if I raise the F stop. I can make the scratches disappear. check final configuration. hope this helps

Think we can dumb this down a bit for me :). I've spent about 6 hours reading over threads on smile directors. spent some time doing some arts and crafts work to my jansjo lights to no avail. I'm finding I either have not enough light or the same type glare I had in the first pictures. Which that means I'm not doing something right. Thanks guys....definitely a novice operating here.
