I acquired a 1973 D Lincoln Cent federal bank roll in April of this year. I'm searching for the best ones to send in for grading. I've never had coins graded before and would like opinions of what the potential of these coins are for grading . Thanks! Jonathan

First off I wish you good luck. It really is not work getting common date contemporary LMCs graded unless you guarantee the result is MS68 or better. The cost of grading/mailing is greater than any profit you will gain on resale, period. This means a near perfect example, no tick marks, straight even color on both sides. You pix are too small to rightfully grade but from the little I can tell these/are MS64-67's. Too many tic/bag marks. When you say Federal bank roll, just where purchased from, surely not ebay?

Why I asked is two fold, one, coins came from mint in bags originally and wrapped by banks then, alotta dings. Second, one can purchase those wrappers today. It is very hard to get an MS68 coin out of a mint set much less a bag.

Once you have a few that you consider the best of the bunch, let us see some good photos of them. We have enough people who know the intricacies of grading Lincoln's that we can give you a pretty good idea of the possible grade.

Then, it's just a matter of looking those grades up for sold prices ( ebay for relatively new coins such a this).

If we think they are 67's and those only sell for $20, then it's not worth the trouble or the money to have them graded.

Unless I'm looking at the wrong numbers the 66 grade goes for around $30 but jumps to around $1000 in 67 (there's one on ebay right now for $1625, but again, that's ebay) and none have been graded in 68 - Could that be correct?

Mark, must be needing more meds! Red Book lists an MS-65 at a whopping $0.30 each! Don't think ebay is realistic do you? If you do,, I have some beach front property in western Nevada you may be interested in.

Must give OP kudos on his roll, I have two, both from different sources that are terrible!

I was looking at the PCGS slabbed coins on their website and it showed MS67's were sold at auction for 1000 and up, I'll have to go back and look for that web page and post the link

Darn, it didn't paste -

I did find this though: maybe prices went down the last 2 years?

I am with Mark, If he got one graded MS 67 it could easily go for $500 at auction and as high as $1,000.

Best I can do, Dancing Lollypop locked up in computer STILL at repair shop...

Recall the old saying, " A fool and his money are soon parted". I coulda bought a lot of food, bullets and small stack silver to prepare for the upcoming Apocalypse for that. Surely that one coin doesn't have that real world value now does it? Sheesh!

Another one!...

MU, Stephens College, Columbia College...these kids have 10X the dough I have, see post above, they fit into the "fool" category...one gets what they pay for, including preferential treatments, called a 20% surcharge for "rush" orders. I'm impatient, until it affects the pocketbook, then I become "tight as the bark on a tree"

Can't give a grade without seeing good pictures of a coin. Generally, these rolls contain coins from MS62-65 in my experience.

Look for a 67 or higher coin, they are worth a lot of money as "top pops".

This is the nicest one I've found, it has some nice toning on the portrait:

But enough marks and chatter to hold it to 63 at best, I'd think.
