Just wondering what people look for in post-2009 cents. I come across so many in rolls and just kind of give them the quick once over to see if there's any obvious doubling anywhere. Are there any known errors, etc the equivalent of the 1983 DDR or 1992 Close AM, etc.? Appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks Jason

Here is a good start. Go to link and type in the dates you want in the 'From' and 'Until' boxes and scroll to bottom and hit 'submit search'. This will be a good start and keep you busy a while. http://coppercoins.com/advsearch.php

DDO's, DDR's and error coins. One famous error known for the 2009 Formative Years is "Catfish Abe" which is a Die Clash under his chin making him look like a Catfish. Here's the link for the "Catfish Abe" error coin. http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-P-Linc...em440a649a16

Thanks all for the great advice. Really appreciated. I figure if I am going to take the time to look through these rolls, I may as well know what I'm looking for ;) When I was a kid (late 70s-early 80s), it was pretty easy: Just flip it over and see if it was a LWC. Not too many of those left it seems (maybe 5 per 1000 I'm finding), so real glad "the industry" has embraced all these "variations" and etc. Its really amazing learning about the whole minting process--which seems essential in helping you to identify whatever anomaly you come across. Really enjoying this site and all your generosity of information. Hoping to be posting some new treasure soon :) Thanks

Just on the doubled dies alone close to 400 DDO and DDR varieties have been listed for this year( Early Childhood - Presidency) and as mentioned above several other varieties can be found in addition.Yes it is a fun year to look for errors on Shield Cents. The Two easy to find which I recommend as well are: 2009 Formative year * Skeleton Finger* which is a DD Rev. WDDR-006 2009 Formative Year *Bootstrap Collection error* which is a long Die Crack extended from the left Boot thru. the U. of EPLURIBUS onto the Rim. Good luck.

I have returned to collecting this year--with a vengeance ;) My last "stint" was for a few months some time prior to 2009. Well, I cant tell you how crazy it seems to me that there are virtually no 2009s in circulation! I've looked through about $100 in rolls in recent months and I actually find more LWCs! So I take the few I find because everyone else is doing it ;) The prices on ebay are insame too...for an 8 year old "common" coin! Theres a billion of them out there--250 million of each, I believe. Where the heck are they all? Must be 900 million pr more in collectors' hands...the worst part is that of the handful Ive found, only half of them look close to uncirculated...I'm squirrelling away 8 year old banged up pennies lol. Anyway its sort of off topic so to bring it back: I will definitely be taking the magnifying glass to the few Ive "hoarded"... Thanks again and this is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for...most popular of the 2009/shield errors, most valuable and easiest to discern with just slight magnification. Much obliged! Jason

By these replies I'm not sure op means 2009 or post-2009 (2010-now). Can we have some clarification.

Yeah I did say "post-2009" but I appreciate the 2009 info as well. I guess that could be construed as including 2009 as well. Sorry for the confusion.
This post mostly came about because as I am roll hunting I am just kind of glossing over all those Shield cents I come across and I fear I may have something really cool right there in front of me and am totally unaware. Was ideally hoping to find out about maybe like the big 3 or big 5 or big 10 errors that people are aware of.
Like when I look through Memorials, I know that when I have a 1983 to look at the reverse and make sure its zinc, etc. Or if I have a 1992 I look at the "AM". Was hoping I could find some things of this nature like: 2011 has doubling on the Shield or something like that...I know (now) there are tons of varieties but if someone knows the big 5 that would be about the only other thing I could wish for.
But I am good with what has been provided to me thus far. More than generous!
Thanks again!
Jason
