I was lucky to win this nice coin from a well known German collection for my Western Greek section. It is a coin from Nola , a city near to Naples . Nola struck only coins from 400 to 250 BC . It was an Oscan city , became under Etruscan domination , then Samnite and finally in 313 BC Roman .
The coinage is modelled on that of Neapolis but begins later .I suppose Nola was under the influence of Neapolis , wich was Greek and Samnite , but I have to check it .
Augustus died in august 14 in this city . albert

Pretty coin; I especially like the obverse! Those man-headed hulls always freak me out, though.

Very nice coin, I like the design of the bull with a human head.

I've been at a zoo recently, and I was really surprised (and almost freaked out) at how much did the (American) bison look like human-faced bulls.

Now I'm wondering if the Greeks who originally came up with the imagery based it on European bison... they don't look quite as uncannily similar to man-headed bulls as American bison do, but it can still be fairly similar.
Rest in Peace
