Dryer Coins or somebody started to make a couple very small rings.

these appear normal with circulation damage. What are you seeing that you believe to be an error? Are we missing something? |

Both of the dimes have smooth edges and it doesn't look like nobody has tampered with the coins they feel like they weigh less than regular dimes to me by holding them in my hands and comparing them to newer dimes they weigh less in my opinion I don't see how regular wear and tear from being circulated would make these coins smooth all the way around all I'm trying to do is to get information to see if anybody else has seen dimes like this any information is greatly appreciated

The edges smoothed and rims wider most likely Dryer Coins. |

If it weight less, it is due to circulation wear.
Smooth edges can be spoon also, someone trying to make a ring or washer out of it? For whatever the reason.
But its not a error coin, no layer is missing BTW.

Yours looks nothing like a Dryer Coin? Listen, don't compare your Dryer Coin to 'typical' Dryer Coins. Like circulation wear, there are also different stages of Dryer Coins. Let's call them 1. Caught very early. 2. Caught early 3. Caught late 3. Caught very late. Yours most certainly could be a Dryer Coin, DO NOT rule that option out by comparing it to just a few Dryer Coins. If my point needs to be clearer I'll be happy to reference pictures. As others have said, this is not an error coin in my opinion but PSD. Some type of manipulation. |

No error coin at all. Most likely a Dryer Coin that was caught early. Errers and Varietys.

The edges of the dimes have been flattened and smoothed by multiple impacts, whether by a dryer, spoon, or some other tool doesn't matter. The edges clearly show many tiny "flats" from the impacts.
As to the weight being less by "feel", typically it is not possible to detect a difference in weight of less than 5 grams by judging by hand. With a LOT of practice you might be able to get this down to 2 grams or so. You are dealing with coins weighing 2.27 grams. It is not possible to really detect a difference by feel. Psychological biases will overwhelm actual sensations.
