Hi there!
I am Canadian and am just getting into coin collecting. I am really finding a lot of fun looking for US error coins but know very little about it. This forum is awesome for help! I have a 1977 Jefferson nickel and there is no mint mark on the back of the coin beside the date. I am wondering if there should be and if this is an error? Or, were some of those coins printed without dates? Thank you!

Before 1979, except during WWll 1941-1945, the Philadelphia mint did not put it's mint mark on any denomination of coins. 1941-1945 the mint mark on the nickel was on the reverse above the building including the Philadelphia mint. From 1979 - 2016 all denominations except the Penny, coming from the Philadephia has the "P" on it. In, I believe, 2009, a limited amount of Penny's bore the "P", which I have yet to see one. I'm not sure how many Penny's were minted with it but I do know it was very low.

Here is the other side of the coin. I thought there might be a double strike on the U. Tell me what you think and thanks again!

1977 J.Nickel without a MM,is normal, it was minted in Philadelphia and there was no MM placed on the coin.

It might not be the best picture but it looks to me like there is a second you in the "UNUM". Does anyone else see that?
