I was going thru rolls of 1999P Bu LMC's- I pulled out about 9 coins that have the same markings above Lincon's head and the die scratch or small crack running from this chip? down the forehead to L

These pictures are of three of the coins

Is this a die chip and die scratch or crack, or just more cent oxidation damage?

My vote is for crack. But it looks like it's getting close to being large enough there on top of his head to qualify for break.

I think it is a chip and a crack, but dont take my word for truth. The three coins have the same markings because they were struck from the same die that had the chip/crack.

Hi,

All On the right track...It is a die crack with a portion that developed into a die chip.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks to all!

Bill:

What came first- the die chip on the top of Lincoln's head or the crack that goes from the right end of the chip down across the forehead and into Lincoln's eye?

FYI- I ended up with 26 coins with this chip/crack out of 10 OBW Rolls of 1999P Lincoln's looking for the 99 Wide AM. *19.23% ratio.*

Given those numbers, this has to be pretty common- although I have not yet found a Business Circulated 1999P yet with this indentical chip/crack that all 26 of these coins have.

Qualify *Business Circulated* Regular rolls of Pennies from my local bank that I search daily- not all inclusive BU 1999P'S.
