Those are cool; I like the reverse design of the first. We have a reverse on US game tokens similar to the second.

OH yeh Kurt You reminded me of something!

For you US guys grundy's is a game arcade place and these are the tokens for the machines.

Yeh Kurt I like the first rev. one that says surfers paradise on it, dad got them years ago. The second one does look pretty normal doesn't it

Grundy's opened in 1981. Paradise Centre on Caville Avenue, which contained Grundy's, has changed hands and been remodelled since the tokens were issued. The centre is now known as Centro Surfers Paradise, and the video arcade in the centre is now owned by Timezone, and presumably no longer uses Grundy's tokens.

I remember going there as a kid in the mid 1980's. The tokens were selling for 3 for $1. I have four varieties of the token: brass or gilt-plated, gilt-replated, nickel-plated and a gilt one which has had almost all the gilding worn off, showing the bronze underneath. There are no doubt dozens of varieties; I don't know of anyone trying to catalogue them yet. The tokens are still fairly commonly seen in scratchtrays, bulk lots, etc, especially here in Brisbane.
