I recently learned of dowmetal, an alloy that is about 90% magnesium and made by Dow. I went looking and it looks like they made a handful of medals/tokens/scrip with the material.

I managed to get a hold of some of the transit fare tokens and am curious about two things: when were they used, and why do mine have counterstamps on them? Four of mine have dots (I think) and the other two have X's stamped on them.

*** And if anybody knows where I can get more, please share. Mine are nicely corroded, because of course they're magnesium.

Rest in Peace

Don't handle these too much as magnesium dust is all kinds of unhealthy.

They were switched to this material, as we're so many tokens and coins, because of so many other metals becoming restricted because of World War II.

The stamps are cancellations so they could not be used after 1945.
