Thank you, SoulBrother! Quote: 2oz Silver with gold plating - Masters Club Exclusive Parliament building coin (from 1939 design). Mintage of 4,000 - $194.95 Hmmm....mintage of 4000 Even being less popular, RCM's coins with 3000 mintage are technically more rare.

Just saw the item on ebay - nice looking coin indeed. I am loving the renewed silver dollar series. I wish they had a large wooden case like the 2017 big coin series. That being said, the individual wood cases are a nice touch. ebay search "CANADA 2017 Renewed Pure Silver Dollar 1939 Parliament Building 2oz Coin" to see the coin.

Anyone have insight as to what the Mint is releasing today in Edmonton? Obviously something NHL related....
From their Facebook page: "Our year of celebrating Canadian milestones continues today and tomorrow in Edmonton as we unveil a coin one hundred years in the making. We'll be onsite at Rogers Place with a hat-trick of activities paying tribute to the league that made Canada's game great."

I wonder if it is the 1.5 ounce $25 rectangular silver coin that is part of the November release?

Good catch Commems. That is probably it. The ebay seller's description of it being 100th anniversary of the TML is likely incorrect. I looks more like the 100th of the NHL. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1917-2017-...AOSwUYNZ5rtLIf this is it, it's another swing and miss...maybe as a bullion item at spot rates, but no way this one justifies the price IMO.

There is a choice, variety...but what to "jump on"?
2oz Maple Leaf? Maybe. Some people will like and appreciate
"In the eyes" series - The Lynx? The coin is good (according to the picture). But even the first one didn't generate hype....
Is everything "slow" because of new iPhone?

The 2 oz Maple Leaf is my type. However, with a mintage of 6000, I'm not sure if this coin is a good investment (yes, I treat coin-collecting as an investment, because I'd buy iPhones and cars if I want to spend money).
Nevertheless, it would take a while for the mint to sell out this coin and I don't need to make a decision right now.

YesOrNo,
If you are waiting for a coin that is a good investment, your if the wrong hobby. Virtually nothing the mint has produced in the last several years has increased in value. There is the odd exception, where suckers pay more than issue. It is foolish to think any NCLT coins will hold there value beyond inflation.

There are many coins that have increased in value recently, such as the following coins: 1) 1 oz Gold Coin - Canada 150 Iconic Maple Leaf (Issue price: $2,849.95) This coin can't no longer be found anywhere. 2) 1 oz Gold Coin - Canada 150 Iconic Maple Leaf - reverse proof (Issue price: $2,849.95) The minimum price on ebay is now $3,600. 3) Silver Puzzle Coin - Canada 150 (Issue price: $1,867) ebay sellers had a great month due to this coin. 4) 10 oz. Pure Silver Coin - Juventas et Patrius Vigor: The 1867 Confederation Medal (Issue price: $899.95) $1300 on ebay. Not only expensive coins appreciate, small silver coins can increase in value greatly as well. For example, this one: Canadian Maple Leaves 1/2 oz. Pure Silver Coin (issue price: $29.95; mintage: 35,000) The minimum price I can find is $44 right now. I agree most coins probably won't appreciate in a short time. That's why you need to be selective and have a strategy, just like you do with your other investments.

YesOrNo, You can choose to disagree but my statement was not an opinion, it is a fact. For every 1 coin that you can list that has appreciated in value and was issued 1+ year ago, I can list over 100 that have dramatically decreased. It's like buying a new Honda Civic as an "investment". Sure, a Ford GT 500 that has a lengthy waiting list to buy may hold its value or appreciate but it'd be silly to say buying a car is an investment. Do you mind me asking how long you have been collecting?

That's why you need to be selective and have a strategy, just like you do with your other investments. Coin Collecting is not an investment. It is a hobby. If you want to earn money, invest in GICs or the stock market. All the high price coins you listed have a limited market. Only collectors with deep pockets can afford them and you will have a hard time selling them. They can sit there for months or years without selling. Asking prices is not as same as sold prices. The Gold Maple Leaves has a asking price of $3600 but not a single coin has been sold. As for the Canada 150 Puzzle coin, a few have sold but after all the fees three is only a slight premium over issue. Furthermore, some of them are best offer accepted prices. One coin was listed at $2399 but actually sold for only $2268. When it came to the 1/2 oz Silver Maple Leaves coin, while it sold for $45, after the fees you are looking at around $39. A premium of $10 seem hardly worth the effort of selling. Not only that but only 2 coins sold in the whole month of October. Not exactly a huge demand for them. I agree with Redzapsid, there at no coins that have appreciated in value this year. Even if we concede there are 1 or 2 that did go up in value, that is a pretty poor record when there are 300+ releases every year.

Dear MoneyPenney, Lots of your "facts" are simple assumptions, and they are inaccurate. Let's take a look at the small Canadian Maple Leaves 1/2 oz coin as an example. The coin is selling at $43 at Colonial Acres, which doesn't pay ebay fees. You shouldn't assume such coins always sell at the lowest ebay price of $45, with ebay fees to pay. The average transaction price would be higher than you had assumed. You shouldn't assume a $10 gain is trivial either. A $10 gain over the $29 original investment, is a hefty 34.5% rate of return. One thing I didn't mention is investment horizon. Are you looking for short-term or long-term returns? You shouldn't assume that people are always seeking short-term returns. Personally, I will keep my coins for a very long time. If you treat coin collecting as a hobby, that's fine. And I respect that. However, if RCM tells me in my face that I shouldn't treat coin collecting as an investment, I would quit it immediately.
