I'll post some pictures of these. A box of Commemoratives from 1987. Founding Fathers. I believe they were put out by the Great Western Mint. Have any of you ever seen this set before, know anything about it?

I'll try the pics now.

Thank you.

Looks like it might be a subscription set. Did you try ebay?

A lot of this privately-issued "limited edition" junk just sells for melt today (predictable).

I've done all the internet searches I can think of to try to find information on these coins. I can't even find information on the mint (Great Western). A seller on ebay has this set in silver and is asking a price that indicates bullion. That set is also a First Edition and I know that some mints strike bullion coins before shifting to the cheaper metals, so I'm pretty sure mine are gold. But I don't want to pop open a case and damage a coin with testing. The set might have collectible value in "mint" condition.

So I'm not sure how to proceed with these. I'm hoping that somebody here will recognize the series and be able to help me assess value, maybe direct me to info on the set and the mint.

Thanks for the input.

Is the reverse design the same on all of the medals? Can you provide an image of the reverse?

The set appears to be one struck / marketed by Liberty Mint in 1987 as a commemorative for the 200th anniversary of the US Constitution. I'm aware of sets being struck in bronze, silver and gold-plated silver.

Most gold medals / rounds feature some sort of indication of their weight and/or fineness. Do your medals have any such indication? If not, it's likely that they are not gold.

I look forward to seeing the image(s) of the reverse(s).

I will try to get some pics tomorrow, examine them for the things you mention. I saw Liberty Mint mentioned somewhere in connection with Great Western Mint, so that makes sense. Thanks for the response.

OK, uploading some new pics, but these coins aren't gold.

While doing the more detailed exams I noticed a couple of spots, dark spots, one of them with a tiny grain of green in the center. Corrosion. So they aren't bullion. Don't have any .999 indicators or anything like that on them either. All of the reverses are the same design.

I have two boxes of the coins, and I'll look at both to see if there are differences, but I don't expect there will be. The coins came from an estate with some other coins, and I agreed to research them. The deceased liked coins as a curiosity but he wasn't a collector. And none of them were under lock and key, so we didn't expect much. Still...I found the .999 silver counterparts to these Founding Fathers on ebay, and you never know.

Pics below, any comments welcome.
