This coin looks like it was found on a black topped road at one point after it was run over several times flipping over in the process. The stones in the black top scuffed it up. I have never seen a counting machine do this type of damage.

thanks guys, but I am wondering if a road job will create another image, melt the coin and damage specific section of the coin.

Sorry, you'll have to be more specific for me. I don't see where the coin was melted. If it were melted you would see a discoloration from the heat. I also don't see the other image. It's harder with a picture than it is looking directly at the coin. Where is the image?

my thoughts exactly, we need closer images of the areas you are talking about.

Does this grade less than AG? A cull perhaps?

I would grade it as *UNC-Badly scuffed on both sides* and value it as a cull.

Hi americanmoney, Please refer to the glossary. I find it interesting to go over it and learn the lingo of this hobby.

Although I agree with you on this coin I must take issue with 1964 s comment "a 61 is not worth keeping"(I hope that is an exact quote, my memory doesn't work well sometimes). I agree a 61 will never be "valuable" in a monetary sense but I think any time you can save an older, high quality coin from circulation it is worth t. Searching penny rolls I have found a lot of high quality pennies from the 50's,60's and 70's that I have put into mylar flips and will hold onto. Do I believe they will be valuable? Of course not but I love the look of a 40 year old coin with nice toning and well-preserved features. There are many reasons people collect coins, value is only one of them(I do it because chicks dig it). I know that you meant that particular coin, but remember there are novices to this hobby that we need to show the many joys that coin collecting can bring and sometimes we forget there is more to value than $'s.

Hi hockingzig. I agree with you that it is not the $ value that a lot of us are unto this hobby. It is really the countless happy and enjoyable hours of searching and discovering coins we believe are worth keeping and love to look at.

A 1961 LIncoln is worth keeping in MS65+. Finding high quality Memorial cents is much more difficult than people think. It's the most under-appreciate series in collecting but finding quality pieces is tough! This coin is definately a cull.
