I am on the same spectrum but just the other end of it...

I put in a bunch of low balls on some double Thalers and older German State coinage and won quite a few more than expected. I'm ecstatic to have won at the price levels I did but still... it's the paying part that sucks. It's OK, it will all be worth it when the beauties arrive

Sometimes being shut out at an auction is a good thing. I went 0 for 6 in the last Heritage Auction, but at least it allowed me to pay off my lay-away coin earlier than expected. So now I'm off searching for my next big coin purchase. Kids have enough, they don't need anything for Christmas!

And the slump continues. A bidding war broke out over this gal this morning.

I suppose that means you lost?

Didn't you just win a beautiful half? You can win all of the time (and you wouldn't want to, you'd be broke in a hurry). Besides, isn't part of the thrill the chase itself? What did the above sample sell for?

Yes and I love the chase. I originally posted this during the Dallas show. Then this coin the final day of the stacksbowers auction. Every single coin I bid on turned in a bidding war including the one above. I think it sold for $550-600. I was out at $400 something.

Oddly the 32 bust half only took one cut bid to win. I've seen other 32's with beautiful toning sell for $1,500 - $1600.
