Hey All,

I am getting back into coin roll hunting and had a question since I am now older and wiser than when I first did this.

When you go through your rolls, you are obviously looking for key dates, error varieties and good condition coins. I know that many coins have additional, less known errors and varieties as well (please see my other post about this here so you know what I am referring to: http://goccf.com/t/300337). When you go through your rolls, are you looking for only the well know varieties and errors or are you looking for many of the other varieties as well? If you are looking for the 'minor' errors and varieties, how in the world do you remember them all and keep track of them when you are looking through rolls that often have 50+ years of dates in them?

I would really appreciate your feedback :)

You don't. You buy a year-by-year error coin book, and just have to memorize what date-mintmark combos have the most / most valuable errors.

So I am assuming those would be the ones that are listing in pricing guides as errors and varieties and not the ones that are not official recognized?

Tough question. I tried asking a similar question about just zinc pennies hoping for a couple condensed lists but only got 1 list. I wish I could help but I'm still on my 4th box that I'm opening. Have been separating years that I know has bigger variety's to go through when I have a clue/know what I'm doing. Newbie but getting more and more into all of this as the days go by.

arvan, really it is up to the individual, some people like to pour hours into looking at 1 roll to find small / minor errors, some looke just for key date and obvious errors.

First off you are Canadian, I assume you are roll hunting Canadian coins, know that the Canadian error market for minor errors is very low to non-existant, so if this is what your passion is then know off that your work is a labour of love.

I did not know that about the Canadian market ace. Thanks for giving me the heads up on that. I appreciate it!
