This die was very close to failure. The coin has an interior die break on the shoulder, a BIE that is actually a LIIBIERTY, and a die chip on the left wheat stalk! I had this just lying around in a drawer at my house. I always lose stuff!

Man, that die was close to near death. That's a great find! The 1950's are my favorite year because the U.S. Mint would overuse the die until it broke. Cuds were probably more common in those years because of overuse of the dies.

Really does show just how far the metal actually does move by seeing just how the L wraps right at the edge of the side bevel (curvature) of the die! I call this the DEVLDS Die, "Definitely Extreme Very Late Die State" (aka: "The Devil's Die)!

PS: usually like the 50's too, except when getting rolls of 56D's in MS63+ condition with the only blemih being a few contact marks! What a waste!

Yeah Crazyb0. I always hate seeing too much contact marks on BU coin or circulated coinage. Years I recommend searching is 1955, 1956 1957 and 1958 for die wear related errors.

Actually, I think the 40s were more common, in my opinion. ESPECIALLY 1940 S coins! Lots of retained die breaks!

Wow, I didn't know that the 40's were common for Cuds. I noticed 1940 S's have a lot of Cuds. But the 50's wre fairly common for Cuds too.
