Picked up these two for my Girlfriend's toned Washington quarter collection. What would you grade them?

Thanks in advance,
Blair

Boy, I'm no fan of toned coins so for me hard to tell what's under there. The reverses look eaten up, pitting?, rough?. Were these coins long time residents of an old glue-backed Whitman folder by chance? The obverse "toning" looks dye induced from the blue cardboard and the reverses look like reaction to glue and moisture. Judging by the color of obverse these look like they were AU/MS when put up, but wouldn't say so now, maybe XF50, and I'd even put an environmental tag on them. Suspect it was a humid climate longterm storage and these were affected by the humidity...basement?

I can't speak to grade but, I prefer the toning on the '53-S. The '51 is just a bit too splotchy and brown for me.

I would also guess folder toning but, I consider that NT. I don't know how others view it.

I'll be honest with you. The 51 , I wouldn't give to a homeless person let alone a good friend . The 53 fairs a little bettor .
