1901 Pan American Exposition Buffalo New York
Silver So-called Dollar HK-287


This was a newly listed item and it wasn't up for long. I see a lot of this in the gilt brass version R3 but not very often in silver, which is somewhere around R5/6 on the rarity scale and copper is quite hard to find at R8 which are the three versions of this one that were minted.

As some of you guys know, I also collected a nice collection of Exposition and World Fair tickets from before 1940 from all around the US and maybe a couple outside of the US.

Here's a couple tickets I have. One for Buffalo Day on Oct 19th and a rare Childrens 1/2 price ticket.


This was one that I had to grab since the price was right and I did not have a medal yet from Buffalo NY.
Yes, it is well worn and has a few splotches but looks like it was a well loved pocket piece for someone that may have visited the Expo.

We see tokens and medals get a Rarity rating now and then. I posted my last find above as an R5/6
Reason for the split is that it was estimated R6 but might be R5 now since more were uncovered at one point in time that have been gilt brass version that were silver plated. So it might be a little more common to run across these than it used to be.
My worn example shows it was never plated.
Since there are so many different rarity scales, I thought I might mention my BEST guess at what these numbers might be close to, taking a ball park average from several scales I've found. Scales that seem to apply to these tokens and medals we might find posted with numbers assigned. Just my estimates with considerable room for error. I think it's reasonably close for my purposes.
If somebody knows a better and simple scale, please let me know.

1901 is supposed to be for MDCDI
Interesting catch there!
But using a conversion table shown here https://www.romannumerals.org/converter it does not come out that way. 1901 should be MDCI
