1920 Belgian Bronze Jeton for the City Council of Brussels

I don't know if this is a 100 year old medal, It does not look like it is. More research is needed for now.

I recognized who is on this medal immediately when I saw it and for personal reasons, I thought it was an awesome piece of art.
I was not all that interested in the City Council of Brussels Belgium, but I will look into that. For me, this one was special.

Saint Michael the Archangel is referenced in the Old Testament and has been part of Christian teachings since the earliest times.
In Catholic writings and traditions he acts as the defender of the Church, and chief opponent of Satan; and assists souls at the hour of death.

Saint Michael is viewed as the commander of the Army of God. From the time of the apostles, he has been invoked and honored as the protector of the Church. Scripture describes him as "one of the chief princes" and the leader of Heaven's forces in their triumph over the powers of heck.
Saint Michael defeats Satan two times, first when he ejects Satan from Paradise, and then in the final battle of the end times when the Antichrist will be defeated by him.
And when Antichrist shall have set up his kingdom on earth, it is St Michael who will unfurl once more the standard of the cross, sound the last trumpet, bind together the false prophet and the beast and hurl them for all eternity into the burning pool.

Jules-Clement Chaplain (12 July 1839 - 13 July 1909) was a French sculptor and one of its finest medallists. With Louis Oscar Roty (1846-1911) he helped found the Art Nouveau movement.
Chaplain was born in Mortagne-au-Perche, Orne, and in 1857 entered the ecole des Beaux-Arts where he studied sculpture under François Jouffroy and medals under Eugène Oudine. In 1863 he won the Prix de Rome for medal-engraving and worked in Rome 1864-1868.
He exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1863, receiving numerous awards, and in 1869 returned to Paris where he found official success almost immediately. In 1877 he was named official medallist of the French government, in 1878 a chevalier of the Legion d'honneur, and in 1881 appointed to the Academie des Beaux-Arts. In 1896 he became Art Director of the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres in 1900 a Commander of the Legion d'honneur.
Chaplain was responsible for the official portraits of every president of the French Republic from Patrice de Mac-Mahon, duc de Magenta, in 1877 to emile Loubet in 1899. He also received the commission for engraving the gold coinage of France, and his official gold medal commemorating the 1896 visit of Czar Nicholas II of Russia was called "a masterpiece and one of the finest ever struck."


I have seen this same obverse on other medals with a different reverse. I am now believing this to be an 1920 minted medal but is minted from dies at least 11 years after the death of this medalist.

is atop all those French names on the reverse. He was the Mayor of Brussels from 1909 until he died in 1939. I am sure that the rest are people of political standing that are listed below.

1994 Tunaman's Memorial

The Tunaman's Memorial, honoring those in the San Diego tuna fishing industry who lost their lives at sea is located in Shoreline Park on Shelter Island in San Diego Bay, California.
This memorial sculpture is a symbol of the courage and determination of the men of the tuna fleet that once operated in the Pacific from its base in San Diego Bay. The statue represents fishermen of different ethnic backgrounds - Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Slavic - who were engaged in this fishery.
It dedicated in October 1988. Artist is Franco Vianello.
The Port of San Diego contributed the granite base and installation. The bronze sculpture weighs 9,000 pounds and stands 21-feet to the tip of the fishing pole. Its inscription reads:
Tunaman's Memorial Honoring those that built an industry and remembering those that departed this Harbor in the Sun and did not return.

I contacted Griffin for this Silver version of which only 70 were minted. I first saw one here in this thread posted by him.

I did not realize the importance of what this sculpture was about. It captured my eye thinking about a couple of my friends fishing with me out of the boat and all hooking onto the same big channel catfish at once.
No Dolphin were injured in the making of this sculpture.

TNG, that's pretty cool! I also love the history behind it too!
