Brochure from the GPO included with this medal includes the date of his death. This is the 3 inch version. A 1-5/16 inch version is also available. The USM still offers this medal on its website.  |

Ellis Island National Shrine "Doorway to Freedom" Medal ( MACO), Bronze, 63mm. One of 4 "Liberty Series" Medals, as discussed here: https://www.coincommunity.com/forum...y_ID=3906679The example shown included came with an order form for the series. . . Last April I visited the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island on a tour.
It was very impressive, although I shuddered at the thought of having to go through the (almost inhumane by current standards) vetting process. Fortunately, the process seems more civilized these days.

I often get these crown-size brass medallions when I visit France. They are generally sold at historic sites for 2 euros from vending machines. These were from my latest vacation:  Chantilly Castle started as a medieval fortress, was converted to a luxury country house in the 17th century, partly demolished during the Revolution and restored in the 19th century. It's famous for its amazing art collection as well as for its stables and racecourse.  This medallion shows the railway carriage at Compiegne where the Armistice was signed at 11 o'clock on November 11, 1918 to end WW1.  This one shows the famous Pont d'Avignon, which features in a French nursery rhyme. Dating from the 12th century, only half the bridge still stands, but it is a popular tourist attraction. Avignon is a beautiful old city in Provence that was a Papal posession for many years and has an impressive Papal Palace in addition to a lovely old building that was formerly a Mint. After many years (10+) of searching, I finally acquired this Mexican medal issued to commemorate a total eclipse of the sun in Mexico in 1991. Silver, mintage unknown, mint unknown.
