I hate that people clean coins, takes most of the value away but sadly you run into them quite frequently. I have the opportunity to purchase an 1870 pick-axe fs-303 Indian cent at a local shop. The owner doesn't know it's a pick axe variety but agrees with me that it' appears it may have been cleaned due to its coloring. Couldn't take a picture of it in his shop but it's RB and between Very Fine and Extra Fine. It's been bothering me cause it's like a tainted treasure sitting there. What would you guys consider paying for something like that?

I wouldn't know a pick-ax if it hit me in the head (because I'd be dead)

Always offer a fair price, as you see it, and you might learn a few bad lessons, but not many.

There are plenty of them out there unattributed.

There is no vf/xf copper that would grade RB either, so the coin has probably been harshly cleaned.

How much was the coin listed for?

No way for a "details" coin.
