Some see this as merely bullion, and I cannot disagree...

However, I just bought one of these from an ebay reseller, because it reminds me that once in a while, the Royal Canadian Mint actually produces a desirable coin that is not overly complicated, gimmicky or downright corny...

I collect nickel dollars, the last of the voyageur series, and this little gem will be a nice addition for me to enjoy.

This is the seller's photo - but since I bought my coin from him, I don't mind using it!!

That really is a good example of what the RCM can do.

I bought some of those - as bullion from Colonial Acres - all of them very nice examples.

I agree, it's a very nice coin with a classic design! I picked up a few as well.

We had a brief discussion of it and its gold counterpart back in September. For those interested, it can be found here http://goccf.com/t/295680

I've been waiting for a proof version since the release of the bullion piece, but it doesn't appear as if the RCM will be issuing one. I think the lack of a proof version of the design represents a lost opportunity for the RCM as I believe a proof would have been popular in silver and gold.

It's nice, but I prefer the original version!

Very nice. Do any of you remember what the original price for this coin was at the mint?

@joey76: The coin was not sold directly by the RCM. It is a bullion coin and was sold via bullion dealers and other coin dealers. IIRC, its original selling price was about $3.00 over its then current melt value.
