I appreciate the information that Swamperbob gave on the 1821 Colombia 8 Real. So here is an 1820 JF 8 Real coin that I also got on E-bay. I included part of the edge too. It weighs 21.15 grams.
The pictures look fine to me. I would guess it is real. The only issue I have is the edge. None of my Colombian coins is at home, and I can not remember if that series used a Spanish Colonial edge or not.
The edge itself causes me concern because the photo makes one corner appear sharp while the other looks as if it was rounded off. I presume that is not what the coin really looks like. Both corners should wear similarly - one rounded corner and one square corner is often a clue to the removal of an edge seam on a cast copy. Please let me know if both corners are identical.
The sketch below is what I would NOT expect to see on an original.
Here are some more pictures of the edges. The edge is not quite a square edge but instead it has an indentation like the edge is sticking out. It was hard to get the picture since light gets in the way.
