Quote: nice coin Hondo - and welcome back Thank you, Dearborn! I picked that one up in NOLA because the center is .925 silver. I need to check my Mexico coins binder to see if I have any others!

...this era at the Spanish colonial mint, at Potosi, Bolivia, produced some of the crudest, gnarliest looking cobs ever made...literally blobs of silver with whatever die markings would transfer ... ...the 1/2 reales from this mint bear a unique & unmistakable stylized monogram for Ferdinand VI (FRD VI), jammed together in a fashion with a smaller "v" (for roman numeral "5") inside a larger "D" ... only Potosi used this style ... ...the 3-digit dates rarely made the strike, &, if so, rarely 3 complete digits ... This cob has all 3 digits as well as a complete (crude as it is) monogram Brazil, to Bolivia ...
