Due to the enormous influx of New World silver & gold, Spain's economy was in turmoil ... in order to negate the inflation, Spain introduced the copper maravedis, which was many times de-valued & then re-valued, in an effort to stabilize their world-standard 8 reales ... these crude coins are worth a study as to their stamping & counter-stamping ... very interesting financial history here...   |
