Hello.

I received some coins from my nan last year, after sifting through them I found two strange coins. On one side was the Jewish 6 pointed star and on the other was some hebrew and the numbers 1289. They look to be made of iron. One of my relatives found these whilst in the army, travelling around the sudan/egypt. The date 1289 co-insides with the date that the jews where exiled for coin cutting. I have asked around but no one can identify them for me.

Pictures coming soon.

Hello warlord_zephyr,

Your coins are probably not Jewish, but from Morocco. The dates 1286 and 1289 are AH(Anno Hegira)dates, which corresponds with AD 1869 and 1872.
On the Moroccan falus coins, you also find a six-pointed star, which is called "the seal of Solomon" instead of the "star of David".
You can find an example of a 4 falus-coin on http://(131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed /countries/coin.php?image=img11/125-166&desc=Morocco%20y166%204%20Falus%20(AH1283-1290)

Values for these pieces depend on how legible they are. If the date and the mint name, written in Arabic, are nice and clear, then it can be worth more. For the type bart linked to (4 falus, Marrakesh mint) coins dated 1289 are worth $10 to $20 in reasonable condition.
