incredible. I especially love the toning on the 1857 dime.

All of these are great. I wish we done the Seated series chronologically, not to complain.

The above coin is a quarter. While not as pretty as most coins in this post, it does tell a story .... Hiram Allen Balch was a photographer or "artist." Born in Madison, Ohio in 1824, he moved to Joliet, Illinois in 1849. He married in 1850 and established his business in Joliet. In 1859, he took his art on the road, traveling throughout Kentucky and Tennessee. Later in life, Balch worked for the U.S. Census Bureau in Washington, D.C. Some fourteen of Balch's counterstamped coins have thus far been documented; this, with the latest date being 1857. Pictured below is one of Balch's daguerreotypes from the 1850's. Note the matching stamps on the frame: H.A.BALCH / ARTIST / JOLIETT, ILL. Balch's stamped daguerreotypes are about as scarce as his counterstamps, it seems!

@Spruett .... Thanks for the acknowledgement. It's taken me years to find and acquire meaningful pairings like this with counterstamped coins in my collection. Daguerreian galleries were most interesting places in the early days of photography. Earlier counterstamped, Liberty Seated coins, ones that have been accurately attributed, tend to be quite popular among us "punch drunk" collectors!
