For $4.25 it will fill an extra hole. Looks like a genuine 1855 large cent that was tooled big time. Interesting how the rim covers the lower part of the date. Anyone know how they did this?

Looks like somebody home made it and put into a bezel for a piece of jewelry - hence the rim around it and it's highly polished

From those photos it looks like tin foil wrapped around chocolate. I am curious why you think it is geniune? Once you get it in hand, please post some better photos.

Mod, thanks for moving the topic. I didn't want to clog up a good forum like this one, which appears exactly what I have done, so I had it in the Main Forum originally. Have seen enough large cents to know is a genuine worn 1855 cent. Just a conversation piece, and I could always sell it and get my 4 bucks back...maybe I was most curious how they got the rim that way. I know someone out there besides me thinks it's worth $4.25. I knew coinfrog wouldn't like it Mark1959 seems closest.

You will do good on this coin if you decide to sell it. It is worth more than what you paid.

Maybe a lathe was involved?

Looks genuine to me. The rim does not cover the bottom of the date, the coin has been tooled, probably with a lathe, inside the rim all the way around and that is what has removed the bottom of the date.

Yeah, you're right. A lathe? Sounds right, think you might have something there.

It's unique and interesting, so I like it for just $4.25. I'd rather have Edweather's coin than this one:
